54 miles to Snoqualmie falls and back

Distance ride to snoqualmie falls. Decent road, great weather ( 69F and sunny) lots of traffic. Felt strong and steady. My gears were skipping all the way which drove me slowly insane. Clearly I need professional help to fix this problem, its beyond my 1992 cycling technology skill level.
